Every year after Whitsun, over 70,000 rock fans make a pilgrimage to the south of Nuremberg. Their destination: Rock im Park. The festival moved from Vienna via Munich to Nuremberg and has been based there since 1997. After stops at the Frankenstadion and Luitpoldhain, it now sets up its three stages at Zeppelinfeld. And has already attracted bands such as Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park and Depeche Mode to the Dutzendteich.
The festival, which lasts three days, is of course musically dedicated to rock and all its varieties. From indie to stoner to punk rock, everything is represented. And heavy metal and hardcore fans get their money’s worth. However, the festival is also increasingly opening up to other music genres such as rap, hip hop and electro.

Nuremberg without the Norisring race: It is no longer even conceivable. Thousands of motorsport fans have been making the pilgrimage to the Zeppelin grandstand since 1947. Back then, everything revolved around motorcycles, as Nuremberg was the German center of the motorcycle industry. The name “Norisring” determined a competition in 1950. The growing importance of cars then led to a crisis in the motorcycle sector, so that from the 1960s onwards, the focus of the race shifted from two to four wheels.
The race track has changed several times over the years: Initially, the course was two kilometers long, later four. Since 1972, the length of the track around the Zeppelin grandstand has been 2.3 kilometers and contains four bends. Drivers reach a top speed of 245 kilometers per hour on the long start and finish straight.

It is one of the largest music festivals in Germany and always fills Nuremberg’s Old Town with national and international sounds on the first weekend of the summer vacations: the Bardentreffen. Around 200,000 people joined in the celebrations in 2024. It is a music spectacle of superlatives: for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, “Germany’s largest free and open-air music festival” is also “Nuremberg’s fifth season”.
Large stages are set up on the main market square, behind the Lorenzkirche church, on the island of Schütt and at other locations. Street performers from all over the world turn squares and alleyways into their stages. In all corners of the Old Town, the audience can listen to music from all corners of the world. And best of all: the world music festival costs no admission.4

Nuremberg has been celebrating the Old Town Festival in September since 1970. For two weeks, innkeepers invite you to a cozy get-together. After the Lord Mayor has opened the festival with the beer tapping, you can enjoy typical Franconian cuisine in the rustic half-timbered houses on the “Market of Hospitality” on Schütt Island. The traditional Franconian breweries take care of the “Doschd”.
Other venues for the Old Town Festival are the Katharinenruine ruins and Hans-Sachs-Platz. Parallel to the Old Town Festival, the Autumn Market takes place on the main market square. The Krämermarkt sells all kinds of household goods and Franconian specialties.
