Art & Culture
Germanic National Museum
The Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg shows a comprehensible and lively presentation of priceless evidence of cultural history from the German-speaking world.
The Nuremberg Memorium provides information about the Nuremberg Trials at the original site. Parts of the original dock from Room 600 give a vivid impression of the trial proceedings.
On 1,300 square meters, the permanent exhibition “Fascination and Violence” deals with the causes, contexts and consequences of the National Socialist tyranny.
Old trees, idyllic mixed forests and natural pond landscapes make Nuremberg Zoo one of the most beautiful zoos in Europe. 250 animal species have their home here.
The Kaiserburg is the landmark of the city of Nuremberg. In the Middle Ages, the Roman-German emperors resided there. From its Freiung as well as from the Sinwell Tower the visitor enjoys a breathtaking view over the old town.
The Lorenz Church is a landmark of Nuremberg visible from afar and is one of its three most important churches. The “Star of St. Lorenz”, a stone rosette and the imperial coat of arms greet the visitor on the west façade; inside there are precious testimonies of Nuremberg artists and one of the largest organs in the world.
The Gothic church on the east side of the main market square is one of the three most important churches in Nuremberg. World-famous are its balcony, on which the Christkindlesmarkt is opened every year, and the art clock with the Männleinlaufen. Every noon, the seven electors pay homage to the enthroned Emperor Charles IV.
St. Sebald is Nuremberg’s oldest city parish church, destroyed in World War II and rebuilt in 1957. Inside stands the prominent reliquary, which Peter Vischer had created in bronze casting.
A legend says that whoever turns once on the golden ring of the Schöner Brunnen will get three wishes fulfilled, whoever turns three times can enjoy many children.
